Perazhagan

“Perazhagan” (2004) is a comedy-drama film by Sasi Shanker and has Suriya and Jyothika in dual roles. The film is about Chinna, a phone booth operator, who falls in love with a blind woman and wants to help her regain her sight. And Karthik, his lookalike, is in love with the police commissioner’s daughter.

Karthik is a violent college student deeply in love with Priya. And his lookalike, Chinna, also known as Prem Kumar, is a kind-hearted village youth who is ridiculed for his hunchback but is optimistic. Chinna helps Priya and Karthik to elope as her father rejects their relationship. But Priya is killed by a gangster Varadhan who wants to avenge her father DCP Nair.

After seeing her death, Chinna is threatened by Varadhan to keep quiet and Karthik is wrongly arrested for Priya’s death. Chinna finally reveals the truth to Nair. He later finds an orphaned blind girl Shenbagam who looks like Priya. After helping her to get her sight, a conflict arises over her love. Chinna decides to step aside for Karthik but Shenbagam loves Chinna for who he is. In the end, Karthik avenges Priya and approves Chinna and Shenbagam’s marriage.

In “Perazhagan” Chinna, a kind-hearted hunchback, helps lovers Karthik and Priya to elope but tragedy strikes when Priya is murdered. While Karthik is in jail, Chinna bravely exposes the killer. He later takes care of Shenbagam, a blind girl who looks like Priya. As love and sacrifice intertwine, Shenbagam chooses Chinna for his heart, not his looks.
