“Pitha 23:23” is a Tamil crime thriller film directed by S. Sugan Kumar, with Adesh Bala and Anu Krishna. The film weaves multiple stories that merge into an exciting climax.

The film is about “Tamil” (Dharshith), a 10-year-old boy who has speech and hearing impairment, who attends a village festival along with friends but disappears into thin air. His worried sister “Lakshmi” (Anu Krishna) searches for him, and the subsequent search is frantic.

On another track, Mano, Lakshmi’s heartbroken lover, drowns himself in alcohol after she rejects his marriage proposal. Meanwhile, a petty criminal (Adesh Bala) and his two associates (Chams and Maris) kidnap a businessman (Arulmani), demanding a hefty ransom. As these seemingly separate events unfold, their paths begin to intertwine in unexpected ways.

The film lingers on elements of greed, betrayal, and infidelity, heightening suspense through engaging turns and twists. The climax of the film summarizes all characters into a single great, tight final act. The film builds at a consistent rate but experiences some comic relief from Chams and Maris being uncomfortably displaced in what otherwise remains a serious movie.

What is most unique about “Pitha 23:23” is its bold shooting challenge: the entire movie was supposedly filmed in 23 hours and 23 minutes, as suggested by its title. Yet, under this constraint, the movie delivers a tightly wound, addictive 90-minute thriller that cannot be set aside.
