“Plan Panni Pannanum” is a Tamil romantic comedy film directed by Badri Venkatesh and produced by Sinthan L. and Rajesh Kumar for Positive Print Studios. The movie features Rio Raj, Ramya Nambeesan, and Balasaravanan in pivotal roles. It is about the disorderly journey of two friends who become entangled in an array of surprising and comedic incidents as they attempt to find a missing sister.
The story begins with “Sembi” (Rio Raj) and “Raju” (Balasaravanan), close friends on a mission to track down Sembi’s sister (Poornima Ravi), who has eloped with her boyfriend (Siddharth Vipin). In a desperate move, the two kidnap a young woman (Ramya Nambeesan), hoping she can help them find the couple. What ensues is an oddball adventure featuring a few off-beat characters and humorous tangents.
Some of the film's highlights include a spoof of a typical bride-seeing sequence from Paasa Malar, a nosy driver who finds himself traveling along with them much longer than expected, and a blackmailer who makes videos of men in compromising situations. They also meet a manager of a film star (played by MS Bhaskar) and become embroiled in a mistaken identity involving borrowed cash. Poornima Ravi gives a good monologue in an important scene, playing a hot-headed young woman from Royapuram.
While the film begins as a comedy with many zany situations and one-liners, it later transforms into drama in the third act. A layered subplot involving the heroine's desire to work abroad and challenging her conservative father's (Aadukalam Naren) will add substance. There is a brief, unnecessary villain who does not contribute anything to the plot.
Overall, “Plan Panni Pannanum” has a few really chuckle-worthy moments and some decent performances, but the uneven tone and absence of a decent screenplay stop it from working completely. The movie is amusing at times but fails to be memorable.
