"Poikkal Kudhirai" is a 1983 comedic romantic film. Stars Ramakrishna, Viji, Raveebdran and Vaali. Sambandam, a wiseacre who likes a daring wager, issues an odd dare. He wagers that Indu, a good-natured and optimistic youth, cannot capture the love of his daughter Janaki. If Indu wins, Sambandam will attend their wedding with half a moustache. If Indu loses, he has to shave his head bald. Indu takes the wager and starts attempting to woo Janaki with assistance from Muthu, a hairdresser and a trusted friend. Indu uses jokes, songs and tricks to reach out to Janaki, who slowly begins to revel in his company.
Things take a turn when Janaki discovers the wager. She’s hurting and questioning whether or not Indu actually loves her or just wants to win. Indu demonstrates his love is genuine by backing out of the bet and giving Janaki the reins. Janaki pardons him, and their love becomes stronger. Sambandam recognises Indu’s genuine love as higher than any wager. He gladly consents to their becoming man and wife, and stands by his promise by appearing with half a moustache. The story concludes with laughter and love and a wedding in the saloon, everyone revelling in a love that defeated the odds.
