Marudheeran (Vijay) is a courageous young man brought up by a tribal chief, Vembunathan (Prabhu). When he is a kid, his village is attacked by demonic warriors known as Vedhalams. He grows up to become a saviour of his people. He marries Pavalamalli (Shruti Haasan) in secret, but while he is visiting a temple, she gets kidnapped by Vedhalams, and Vembunathan is murdered. Marudheeran starts a quest to rescue her along with his friends Kodangi and Sama. On the journey, he rescues Princess Manthagini (Hansika Motwani) from harm, and she falls for him. They arrive at the palace of Vedhalapuram, occupied by the tyrannical Queen Yavanarani (Sridevi) and her general Jalatharangan (Sudeep).
Marudheeran and his associates infiltrate the palace, disguising themselves. The queen is impressed with his valour and invites him to remain. Manthagini boldly declares her love, and the queen declares them engaged. But Marudheeran soon discovers the truth, that he is a half-human half-Vedhalam, and the son of a mighty tiger-demon Pulivendhan (Vijaykumar) and a princess from the human kingdom. Jalatharangan betrayed and slew Pulivendhan and even put a curse on Yavanarani in order to take control of her. As the real powers of Marudheeran unlock, he realises his tiger-demon form and kills Jalatharangan with a brutal battle. He also shatters the queen's magical spell and brings back her true self. Grateful for his bravery, she declares him the new heir to the throne.
