Synopsis

Directed by A.S. Raj Prabhu, “Pulikodi Devan” is a Tamil-language drama film produced under AKS Entertainment by Syed Mayil. V. Krishnaswamy and Amala Maria play the main roles. The movie is based on the age-old issue of caste-based discrimination and honor killings. It revolves around two different plots, where caste prejudice ruins love and relationships. One story tells of a casteist father brutally murdering his own daughter for loving a man of a lower caste. Here, he is more concerned about his family's prestige than accepting his daughter's happiness. He perceives love as an insult to his status and commits the unthinkable act that leaves a trail of pain and tragedy behind. In the second story, a casteist brother tries to separate his sister from her lover because the young man also belongs to a lower caste. The brother is concerned that the family reputation is in question and will go to any extent to keep them separated. He threatens and frightens them to ensure they don't get married at all costs. As tensions build up, the question remains; does he manage to keep them separated, or will love conquer despite differences in caste? Does he resort to violence like the father in the first story, or does he have a change of heart? “Pulikodi Devan” is a very powerful film that brings out reality concerning caste-based society discrimination. It questions the outdated traditions that bind young lovers caught between love and rigid social norms. The film is an effort to create awareness concerning the need for equality and acceptance among viewers to think about the consequences of casteism. “Pulikodi Devan” has delivered a strong message against honor killings and social injustice with an intense narrative and emotional depth.
