Raja Chinna Roja, directed by S. P. Muthuraman, is a family drama film from 1989. It features Rajinikanth, Raghuvaran, Gautami and Ravichandran. The film follows Raja, an aspiring actor who comes to the city to chase his dreams. There, he meets his childhood friend Bhaskar and is unexpectedly tasked with caring for Bhaskar’s five troublesome nieces and nephews, leading to a series of challenges that change his life.

Raja, a village bumpkin with ambitions of becoming an actor, moves to the big city where his dreams run up against harsh realities. While searching for opportunities, he ends up falling in love with Usha, the daughter of Sardar’s landlord, and she, too, eventually returns his affections. Fate brings Raja face-to-face with his childhood friend Bhaskar, a spoiled rich man who offers him an acting job. However, Bhaskar instead places Raja in charge of managing his uncle’s household and looking after five troubled children, each with their own behavioural issues.

As Raja gets used to his new job, he learns that Bhaskar is not who he seems. He lies to his uncle and runs a drug business on the side. Ravichandran, Bhaskar's uncle, temporarily loses his sight. After he gets better, he pretends to stay blind to find out that Bhaskar has betrayed him. Ravichandran kicks Bhaskar out after he tells the truth. Bhaskar then steals his uncle's car, which leads to an arrest for drugs that is not right. Raja is determined to prove Ravichandran's innocence, so he works with the kids to confront Bhaskar and catch him in the act. In the end, Raja’s honesty and bravery triumph, and he is allowed to pursue his dream of becoming a film actor under Rajaram's direction.

Raja Chinna Roja is a delightful blend of family entertainment, comedy, and light-hearted drama. The story of a girl’s childhood tenacity and spirit, the film brings a remarkable and tender world to life with an evocative mix of humour, music and feeling. Though these situations may be familiar to students or their families, it is a one-of-a-kind experience with its vibrant art style, whimsical approach, and charming animated vignettes.
