“Sakalakala Vallavan” by S. P. Muthuraman’s direction is a drama film from 1982. It features Kamal Haasan, Ambika and Raveendran. The film follows Kamal, whose sister is raped by the village head's son after Kamal refuses to submit to his tyrannical rule. Fueled by rage, Kamal swears to reveal the crime, and make his sister receive justice, and to hold the perpetrator accountable.

Velu is a villager, managing the family farm, his landlords are Ramaiah Pillai and Parvathi, stealing from the poor farmers, and taking their properties. Their children, sons, Pazhani and daughter, Geetha, are studying in the city. Velu is engaged with the henchman of Parvathi. Parvathi is angry with Velu's family, and they go back to the village. Velu's father, Chinnaiah Pillai, returns the money owed to Parvathi, but lies that he did not get it. Ramaiah returns the promissory note and advises Velu to be calm. Parvathi kidnaps and rapes Velu's sister Valli as revenge. Velu saves her from suicide and decides to marry Pazhani.

Ramaiah and Parvathi meet Sundaram, a US-returned businessman, with his children Sam and Bobby. They marry, and Sam and Bobby reveal their true identities. Parvathi and her family try to end the marriage, but Ramaiah warns them of dire consequences. Geetha becomes attracted to Velu, and they live together amicably. Pazhani, who is jealous of Lalitha, berates them and sets the house on fire. After Lalitha tells Velu about the conspiracy, he can defeat the thugs to rescue Pazhani and Valli. Pazhani is apologetic, and the family processes back together.

"Sakalakala Vallavan" is a thrilling story that weaves intense familial conflict with social commentary. The film's thematic tension is further enhanced with the interrogation of rural power, not to mention an examination of the internal conflicts and situations we create in our daily lives. In many instances, the film's characterisation includes unanticipated plot twists that add to the film's complexity; however, the main message to fight back against oppressive situations, while seeking to redeem oneself against the background and context of social expectation and oppression are viable concepts that truly resonate.
