Samar (2013)

"Samar" is a Tamil mystery action-adventure film released in 2013, written and directed by Thiru, featuring Vishal, Trisha, and Sunaina. Sakthi, a jungle trekker, is portrayed in the story whose life is turned around by a surprise letter sent by his former girlfriend, Rupa, requesting him to go to Bangkok. Sakthi (Vishal), an enthusiastic forest trekker and ranger's son, passes his days trekking with tourists and safeguarding nature. He is dating Rupa (Sunaina), but she abandons him after realising they do not match, notably when he forgets information about time spent together. Months later, Sakthi gets a letter from Rupa with an air ticket to Bangkok. Delighted with his first foreign trip, he flies to Bangkok and meets Maya (Trisha) on the aeroplane. After Rupa does not turn up at the Buddhist temple as agreed, he is perplexed. IPS officer Muthumaran (Sampath Raj) comes to his aid but cautions him not to have high expectations. Before long, Sakthi gets embroiled in a serious situation where he is confused with a rich tycoon who bears a striking resemblance to him. As Sakthi tries to define himself strange things happen like being allotted a different name, having his hotel room changed, and being gifted a bank account he has no recollection of opening. These are all his attempts to define himself. Two rich businessmen out of pure boredom, decide, for their sadistic pleasure, to exploit an individual’s life and create a simulation while these people are puppets in their perverse scheme. Sakthi defeats the villains with cunning. As the nasty game comes to an end with gunfire, he and Maya flee the scene in a dramatic conclusion. The appropriately named action mystery "Samar" keeps viewers guessing right up until the very end. There are several unexpected turns in the plot, and Vishal does a good job portraying a character that is confused and full of activity. The film explores identity, control, and manipulation with a chic presentation and gripping voiceover. Action drama enthusiasts will like this exciting journey, which has just the right amount of mystery and excitement.
