“Sandakari” is a 2020 Tamil romantic comedy film written and directed by R. Madhesh, featuring Vimal and Shriya Saran in the lead. A remake of the Malayalam super hit “My Boss” (2012), the movie is about Arumugham, a humble and ambitious youth from Tamil Nadu who wishes to go abroad for a better career and future.

“Arumugham” (Vimal) is a subordinate of “Keerthi” (Shriya), his boss at an IT firm in Chennai. Keerthi is an Australian citizen of Indian origin, a tough and fearless woman who has a no-nonsense approach to things. One day, Keerthi finds out that her visa is due to expire and, in order to stay on and work in India, she will have to establish that she has close personal connections with the country. To meet the situation, she forces Arumugham to marry her on a pretext. Arumugham eventually agrees to help her on condition that she inspires his desire to work overseas.

What begins as a business-like transaction quickly turns into a ride of misunderstandings, awkward moments, and slapstick comedy, especially when they visit Arumugham's village and present themselves as an loving couple in front of his conservative relatives. Though the two are acting as husband and wife, there is chemistry between them. Arumugham falls for Keerthi, and she begins to fall for his innocence and sincerity.

The more time they spend together, the more real their pretended marriage is becoming. But just when everything is looking up, the reality of their deal comes close to destroying everything. Ultimately, love conquers ego, and the two realize they are meant to be with one another.

“Sandakari” is light entertainment with a typical yet endearing narrative. Chemistry between Vemal and Shriya sustains the film, and thus, it emerges as a feel-good romantic comedy for the entire family.
