Synopsis

Directed by S.S. Balan, produced by Ayaz Ali Shaikh, stars Amitabh Bachchan, Mala Sinha, Aruna Irani, Madan Puri. Released in 1972. Remake of a Tamil film ‘Iru Kodugal’ which was directed by K. Bhalchander. Asha Devi (Mala Sinha) and Mohan (Amitabh Bachchan) fall in love with each other and get married in Kasi but his mother disapproves, and they separate. Asha is Pregnant, her father knows very well that no one will marry her so decides to let her study to become a district collector. Mohan moves to South India where he marries Seema (Aruna Irani) and have two kids. He works in the collector’s office not knowing that Asha Devi is coming there as a collector. They work together and rumours are spread about both of them having a clandestine affair, which Seema gets to hear and is depressed and wants to die Asha devi saves her and dies herself.
