"Singam 2" (2013) is a Tamil action thriller movie directed and written by Hari and featuring Suriya, Anushka Shetty, and Hansika Motwani. The movie is a sequel to the story of intrepid policeman Duraisingam, who becomes an undercover cop in Thoothukudi to arrest two citymen operating in conjunction with an international drug cartel.

Eight months after clearing the criminal Mayil Vaaganam, Duraisingam (Suriya) leaves the police and takes a secret job as an NCC master in a school at Thoothukudi to probe growing criminal activity. The Chief Minister and Home Minister are the only two who know about his assignment. Gathering information along with assistance from a school staff member by the name of Susai (Santhanam), a student by the name of Sathya (Hansika Motwani) falls in love with him, making things more complicated. Meanwhile, his relationship with Kavya (Anushka Shetty) is strained as his father disapproves of their marriage. Singam finds that local thugs Thangaraj (Rahman) and Bhai (Mukesh Rishi) are running smuggling and drug operations. After a girl is kidnapped by Bhai’s men, Singam steps in, saves her, and gains public support. This success clears the way for him to officially return as DSP.

Singam arrests Saghayam (Mottai Rajendran), Bhai’s man, and Danny (Danny Sapani), a drug smuggler, during a raid. However, despite Thangaraj's pressure, Singam does not let them go. With growing threats, he wants to see a national-level operation against drug smuggling. Having faced an attack on his family and learning about Sathya's murder by Thangaraj, Singam is even more resolute. He overpowers Thangaraj's henchmen, learns of the international twist, and secures his wedding trip to South Africa, where he also wants to arrest Danny. After a thrilling pursuit overseas, Singam apprehends Danny and returns him to justice. He also reunites with Kavya and gets promoted to DCP.

"Singam 2" provides high-speed action and upholds the ethos of its predecessor with robust heroism and aggressive dialogues. Suriya excels in the title role with a high-octane screen presence. Though the narrative follows a predictable path and develops some excessively melodramatic situations, its high-energy presentation, quickie fights, and nationalistic tone make the audience interested. The movie appeals particularly to fans of mass heroes and fast-paced sequels.
