Siren

"Siren” is a Tamil action thriller film by Antony Bhagyaraj, stars Ravi Mohan, Anupama Parameswaran, and Keerthy Suresh. The movie revolves around “Thilagavarman” (Ravi Mohan), an ambulance driver turned prisoner, who gets parole after 14 years to meet his terminally ill father and estranged daughter, “Malar”. Yet, his homecoming awakens old emotions, as Malar hates him for being blamed for the death of her mother “Jennifer”.

While on parole, Thilagan is involved in a local minister Manickam Thangam's political assassination plot. When Manickam is killed, suspicion falls, and Inspector “Nandhini” (Keerthy Suresh) starts an investigation. As she collects clues, she finds that Thilagan may be keeping something more from her than he shows. In a dramatic turn of events, Thilagan kills “Anbu”, a central character in the story, and plots a master revenge against the culprits behind his wife's murder years earlier.

It is shown through flashbacks that Thilagan was a loving husband to Jennifer, a mute and deaf nurse. His life turned dark when corrupt officials, such as Manickam and DSP Nagalingam, framed him for Jennifer's murder. Now, under the cover of his parole, Thilagan methodically liquidates his adversaries, and in a thrilling climactic fight at a temple fair, with the last act of revenge completed, Thilagan returns to jail, and it is there that Nandhini ensures Malar knows the truth.

Though “Siren” offers a gritty revenge drama with strong action scenes, its formulaic plot and long duration dilute the impact. Ravi Mohan is effective in his performance, but the movie has a pacing problem. “Siren” manages to offer an entertaining thriller with emotional resonance despite its shortcomings.
