Ved, played by Ranbir Kapoor, goes against his father’s wishes and leaves engineering, as he has no interest in it. As a young boy Ved was fascinated by the stories told by a roadside storyteller and imagined his life to be interesting and adventurous just like his stories but he didn’t like the sad endings. He goes to Corsica for a holiday and meets a girl called Tara, played by Deepika Padukone, who is also there on holiday.

Ved and Tara become friends and unanimously decide to not reveal their true identities and use filmy dialogues and character names to address each other. Tara realizes that she is falling in love with Ved and decides to leave and goes back to India to take care of her father’s tea business. Ved goes back to India too and is now working in an IT company who has a very monotonous and fixed schedule he follows everyday.

During a business meeting Tara spots Ved and tells him that she has fallen for him. They decide to start dating but Tara is not convinced he is the same person she met in Corsica. She gets upset with his indifferent and meek attitude. He proposes to her at dinner on day and she refuses saying she doesn’t recognize his personality anymore. Ved meanwhile is fighting his own demons of a personality disorder and confront Tara and eventually becomes the old person he was with her and they unite. The movie is directed by Imtiaz Ali and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. The music is composed by A.R Rahman.
