Under the direction of I. V. Sasi Thadaakam (1982) is a thriller mystery film from Malayalam cinema. It Features Ratheesh, Seema, Sumalath, Captain Raju and Mammootty. The film is about Rajendran, an army officer, and his wife Sreedevi, whose honeymoon in Kashmir takes a dark turn when Sreedevi begins to experience visions from a past life. As Dr. Nair helps uncover hidden truths, they are drawn into a haunting mystery tied to a betrayed woman named Sabira and a powerful man's buried crimes.

Rajendran, an army officer, goes to Kashmir with his wife Sreedevi for their honeymoon. They have been invited to stay with Rajendran's uncle, Dr. Nair, who works in a hospital in Kashmir. Everything appears fine and right until one day, while boating on the lake, Sreedevi faints and starts seeing visions and dreams of a past life. Dr. Nair believes it is only stress, but Rajendran suspects that it is more than that. It is only shortly afterwards that they encounter a young local woman, Sabira, who looks remarkably like Sreedevi. Slowly, it becomes clear that Sreedevi is remembering a past life that belongs to Sabira.

In that life, Sabira fell madly in love with a man who ultimately betrayed her. Her love interest had her murdered for the land she left behind to gain power. That man is now a high-profile politician. Sreedevi harnessed Sabira's spirit and began the process of learning the truth. With support from Rajendran and Dr. Nair, they began the process of unveiling the crimes of the politician. Sabira's progeny received justice, and Sreedevi was released from her vision pains. The story concludes with Sreedevi's life returning to normalcy. Rajendran and Sreedevi returned home transformed by their experiences and satisfied that they had helped a lost soul find peace.

Thadaakam is a unique atmospheric experience that expertly melds elements of mystery, emotional weight, characterised by its slow-burn tension and richly evoked place. The haunting atmosphere of the film is augmented by the compelling visual storytelling, and insinuations of psychological disturbance. The film captures the story at a steady pace that allows the density to break through and pull you into a multilayered and immersive experience.
