“The Boys" is a 2024 Tamil adult horror comedy film directed and written by Santhosh P. Jayakumar himself, who also stars in the film along with Sha Ra, Arshad, KPY Vinoth, Yuvaraj, Ganesan, Redin Kingsley, and Rajendran.
The movie shows the lives of five irresponsible friends - "Karthi" (Santhosh), "Akira" (Sha Ra), "Kolaar" (Arshad), "Baby" (KPY Vinoth), and "James" (Yuvaraj). who enjoy a careless life, full of fun, prank, and adventure, avoiding responsibilities of any kind. Their careless life takes a sudden turn when they are forced to leave their current abode and move to a new house, the reasons for which are unclear.
At first, the group treats their new home as just another hangout spot, but strange and inexplicable events begin to occur. Their bond is tested as they experience unforeseen frights yet continue to try to maintain their normal humor and friendship.
The film combines humor, horror, and drama with a story that is dependent on the use of "boys will be boys." While it attempts to center on the destructive influence of alcoholism, the role is somewhat undercut by the focus of the film on coarse humor and extreme behavior. The final monologue attempts to deal with this problem, but the tone appears to be an afterthought rather than a well-delivered message.
In spite of its shortcomings, “The Boys” has enough laughs and fun moments to entertain those who like light horror comedies. Redin Kingsley and Rajendran introduce their own kind of humor to the movie, turning it into a comedy viewing. But predictability is the case with the story, as well as in the horror sequence without any influence.
Available streaming now on Amazon Prime Video in several languages, "The Boys" is a playful, extravagantly campy comedy-horror movie giving some laughs along with fright, but will perhaps leave no deep impact.
