The Taj Story is a forthcoming Hindi courtroom drama written and directed by Tushar Amrish Goel. The film is produced by CA Suresh Jha with Vikas Radhesham as creative producer under the banner Swarnim Global Services Pvt. Ltd. It features Paresh Rawal, Zakir Hussain, Amruta Khanvilkar, Sneha Wagh, and Namit Das in lead ensemble roles.
The plot is centred around controversies and unanswered questions about who really built the Taj Mahal. The film delves into contested historical narratives and re-examines commonly accepted facts. It challenges the official story of Shah Jahan as the sole builder. It asks if certain truths have been suppressed over time. It also raises the provocative question, “Even after 79 years of Independence, are we still slaves of intellectual terrorism?”
Paresh Rawal anchors the cast and undoubtedly gives the most powerful performance in the courtroom sequences. Zakir Hussain, Amruta Khanvilkar, Sneha Wagh, and Namit Das support the conversation with their characters. The teaser shows Rawal in a legal proceeding, making a case regarding an "intellectual wipe-out" of a community. The film is called a "cinematic debate", which mixes social commentary with history. The message is bold, asking audiences to consider freedom, identity and who acts as the historian.
The film is to be released in theatres on October 31, 2025, all around India. The trailer is yet to be released. Audiences can expect a thought-provoking drama that doesn't just tell history, but questions history, in hopes of initiating dialogue and debate.
