He falls in love with Indu, the daughter of a high-ranking officer, and they plan to marry after his graduation. Tragedy occurs when Indu’s father is killed in a terrorist attack, and her mother dies from grief.
Fearing for Surya’s safety, Indu forces him to choose between her and his military career. Surya seeks advice from the brigadier, who tells him about his own parents’ past. The brigadier's father was a former terrorist who wanted a son to serve the country, while his mother was a nun who gave him up after his birth. Surya believes he was meant to protect his country and tells Indu she must wait 12 years for him to finish his service before they can marry. Indu supports Surya as he departs with his unit.
