Uzhavar Magan (2025)

Uzhavar Magan (2025), directed by P. Iyyappan, is a Kollywood social message drama. The film stars Vijith Saravanan, Kaushick, Simran Raj and Vinsitta George. Karthi, a B.Sc. Agriculture graduate moves to a small village in search of work. He finds a job at an agricultural supply store, though it is far below his qualifications. The shop owner sends him to collect payments from local farmers. During one visit, Karthi meets Janani at a temple and is instantly attracted to her. She turns out to be the daughter of a farmer who owes money. After a few visits, Janani’s father expresses his wish for Karthi to marry her, but Karthi refuses, leaving everyone surprised. When the shop owner started questioning Karthi, he began to share his backstory. Karthi was a farmer himself, and was held in high regard in his village. It was there that he met Anjali, a wealthy young woman studying agriculture. They became close based on their mutual interest in farming, but an untruth hurt Karthi's reputation. The personal stresses compounded as his mother's health deteriorated in the same period, resulting in her death. Back in the present, while he was mourning, Anjali’s brother arranged her marriage to another wealthy man, and Karthi quietly stepped aside. Now he agrees to marry Janani. But Anjali’s brother returns, saying her marriage failed and she is now a widow. He then proposes that Karthi marry her, compelling Karthi to choose between his past love and a new life. Released on 8 August 2025, Uzhavar Magan is a low-budget work of brilliance that has gone under the radar. It is a fundamentally important film in favour of farming and expresses an emotional, and socially relevant narrative drawn from rural life. The realistic direction of P. Iyyappan, combined with earnest performances, makes the film pure for audiences, and its maximum impact will resonate with anyone who values sincere cinema and believes agriculture is the bedrock of life.
