Vanangaan

Vanangaan (2025) is an action film by director Bala. It features Arun Vijay, Ridha, Roshini Prakash, P. Samuthirakani and Mysskin. The film is about Koti, a deaf-mute man with a fierce sense of justice, who takes the law into his own hands after discovering abuse at an orphanage. As DSP Kathiravan investigates the murders that Koti commits, multiple painful truths and tragic consequences start to unravel around Koti, his sister Devi, and his childhood crush, Tina.

Koti lives with his sister Devi in Kanyakumari, and both lost their parents in the 2004 tsunami. They were fortunate enough to be accommodated by a nice priest who was aware of the kids' tragedies. Although he is deaf and dumb, Koti has an innate sense of justice, particularly when it comes to women. He tends to use his physicality to punish those who are unjust. Tina, a local guide to the area, has liked Koti since childhood. Although it takes extensive efforts for Tina to get Koti's attention, when she assists Koti in shutting down a wine shop near the Church to stop bad men from entering, he finally notices her and eventually falls in love with Tina. With Tina and Devi's help, Koti gets a job at Mira Orphanage, where he becomes close to the children, especially the visually impaired girls.

One day, Koti catches three workers secretly watching the girls bathe. Furious, he kills two of them and surrenders to the police but refuses to say why. With no proof, he's released on bail. Still silent, he hunts down and kills the third man. DSP Kathiravan later discovers the men were abusing the girls and brings the truth to court. Koti is freed, but tragedy strikes when Devi, unaware of the truth and fearing Koti’s death sentence, takes her own life. Koti is left heartbroken, even as the community celebrates his release.

Vanangaan is a raw and emotionally charged film that explores silence, justice, and sacrifice in a deeply personal way. It doesn’t just entertain, it leaves you thinking about the price of doing what’s right in a world that doesn’t always listen. The emotional depth, especially around themes of loyalty, trauma, and inner strength, feels grounded and real, making the journey both heartbreaking and quietly powerful.
