“Veerayi Makkal” is a Tamil drama film that has been written and directed by Nagaraj Karuppaiah and produced by Suresh Nandha under the banner of White Screen Films. Written and directed by Suresh Nandha and starring Nandana Anand, the film narrates the deep bond of love between siblings and the problems that threaten to break it.

“Vela Ramamoorthy and Marimuthu”, two siblings from a village close to Aranthangi, are brought up by their mother, “Pandi Akka”, following the death of their father at an early age. With their sister Deepa and good friend Gerald Milton, they all live together in a joint family, sharing a deep bond of unity and tradition, valuing the principles of family support and unity.

With the passage of time, Deepa marries and settles in another town, and the household is left to her brothers. Even though she is away, the family remains very close to one another and survives the highs and lows of life together. Something causes an unintended gap between Marimuthu and Vela Ramamoorthy, creating a huge gap between once inseparable brothers. They do not speak to one another, severing relationships completely.

Years go by and pass, yet the family continues to be apart from each other with unresolved tension and unspoken ill will between them. The cause of their breakdown is still hidden, and the audience is left wondering what caused such a sudden break-up.

With the unfolding of the story, “Veerayi Makkal” explores if ever the brothers will make up or if their relationship is irretrievably lost. By poignant confrontations and emotional scenes, the film depicts the bother of keeping the family bond together and the value of forgiving.

Though “Veerayi Makkal” is emotionally strong in its premise, the film got a mixed reaction. The realism of family life and performance, particularly that of Suresh Nandha and Nandana Anand, were valued. The pace was slow to some, and the resolution of the problem was inadequate.
