“Villu” (2009) is a Tamil action comedy film directed by Prabhu Deva, starring Vijay, Nayanthara, Ranjitha, and Prakash Raj. The story follows a young man who seeks revenge for his father's unjust death and unexpectedly falls in love with the daughter of one of his father's killers.
Pugazh, an IIM/IIT/Oxford-educated, hard-nosed masculine freed criminal beats and single-handedly brings them to justice in very realistic descriptions and starts working under Inspector Joseph. After successfully capturing a wanted criminal Raaka, Pugazh, the hero, goes to the wedding and falls in love with Janavi and eventually weds her. She brings him to Munich to meet her father, J. D., a multimillionaire and business mogul. Unknown to everyone, Pugazh has his own agenda and wants to get J. D., an arms dealer connected with his father’s death. After discovering the reason behind Pugazh’s mission, Janavi tells his mother, who surprises everyone by siding with her son and sharing a shocking truth: Pugazh is not her biological son.
Pugazh’s actual father, Major Saravanan, was a fearless Indian Army officer murdered by J. D. and his gang on a trip. Saravanan’s valiant efforts highlighted their operation with terrorists, which was the reason they decided to set him up and kill him. Labelled a traitor, his family endured dishonour, compelling his mother to send him away so he could escape Guam and seek a better life. Years later, after acquiring a Blu-ray disc that can change the power balance, J. D. returns Pugazh to India for a covert operation to reclaim the disc. Pugazh is able to save his mother, and they both flee to the temple, where they take shelter. Shark Tank style, a very fiery competition begins once J.D. and Raaka show up. In a suspenseful final showdown, Pugazh defeats the powerful duo and restores his father’s good name.
“Villu”, a wholesome entertainer with action, emotion and enough laughs, is mostly powered by Vijay’s high-voltage presence and Prabhu Deva’s stylish direction. The emotional undercurrent of the film serves to combine patriotic themes with mass entertainment, providing catchy songs, high-octane chases and exotic locales. While sometimes predictable, it is still an exciting movie, perfect for fans of action-heavy revenge dramas.
