Yaavarum Vallavare

“Yaavarum Vallavare” is a Tamil thriller drama film written and directed by N. A. Rajendra Chakravarthy, it stars Samuthirakani and Yogi Babu. It is an anthology film where the lives of various individuals are portrayed over the span of one eventful night, and their stories converge at the end.

One of the storylines is about a man just back from prison, trying to get his wife and daughter to take him in again after five years away. Another tells the story of a widow who has lost her soldier husband. A third is about a son trying to find his missing father. All of these narratives have high emotional stakes.

Conversely, the fourth tale is a lighter one. It is about a girl who is going to elope, her father attempting to prevent her from doing so, and two burglars who enter their home by posing as filmmakers. The segment is comic relief, although some of the jokes do not work. The good comic timing and strong performances, however, make it enjoyable.

The movie strongly promotes religious harmony and unity, employing its main characters and dialogue to emphasize these aspects. Yet, it tends to be too preachy, with some ideological messages coming across as forced instead of organically integrated into the narrative. Patriotic dialogue and identity discussions, though powerful, tend to break the narrative at times.

Though flawed, the movie is made with sincere effort and belief. How the various stories finally come together is pleasing, but the impact on the emotions could be greater. Though “Yaavarum Vallavare” has a positive message and interesting characters, it fails to emotionally connect with the viewers fully.
