Synopsis
“Yakshini” is a Telugu fantasy thriller television series directed by Teja Marni and Shobu Yarlagadda and produced by Prasad Devineni. Vedhika, Rahul Vijay, Manchu Lakshmi, and Ajay star in the series, which combines mythology, suspense, and dark humor for a unique supernatural experience. “Maya”, who is cursed by Kubera, the Yakshini king, is required to murder 100 humans in order to break the curse and get back to her country, Alkapuri. The curse requires her 100th victim to be a willing virgin, and thus makes her task all the more difficult. She meets “Krishna”, an innocent and kind-hearted man who falls head over heels in love with her. As she tries to make him fall in love with her through her manipulation of circumstances, Maya finds herself falling for him as well, which creates a love conflict within her. Just as she is about to achieve her mission, “Mahakal”, a forceful and cryptic character, steps in. He appears to be aware of Maya's past and has an intense grudge against her. His unexpected involvement makes Maya's journey more challenging, and the mystery surrounding their mutual past gradually uncovers. At the same time, “Jwalamukhi”, a power, enters the scene, further complicating Maya and Krishna's fate. When tension builds to a crescendo, Krishna remains none the wiser of the deadly reality he faces. Will Maya proceed with her mission, or will love change her fate? Backed by the producers of the Baahubali franchise, Yakshini is Vedhika's OTT debut. The six-episode series has an interesting mix of fantasy, mystery, and mythology. Even with a fresh concept, the implementation is haphazard at places. The acting, especially that of Vedhika, adds depth to the narrative, so “Yakshini” is an interesting but inconsistent watch for fantasy lovers.
