“Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai” is a Tamil psychological romantic thriller film written and directed by Ram and produced by Nivin Pauly, Anjali, and Soori. The film is shot on the wheels of a running train, where a casual encounter sets off a remarkable chain of events. A 32-year-old common man, “Muthu” (Nivin Pauly), is swept up in an adventure that totally transforms his life. On the train, he comes across a cryptic woman, “Aadhira” (Anjali), who says she is 8,000 years old and agelessly immortal. Initially, Muthu dismisses what she says as delusions but becomes implicated in inexplicable events that unsettle his own reality. A small mouse, which too seems to be nothing, takes on symbolic connotations in their crash course. The more they converse, the more Aadhira shares secrets about time, love, and cycles of life and death. She shares with him a connection beyond lifetimes, so much so that she leaves him with the implication that he has indeed encountered her before, but in other eras, when he doesn't. “Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai” is a stunning looking and philosophical movie with themes of romance, drama, and psychodrama. While its eccentric plot will find no friends for all, Nivin Pauly's rigorous performance coupled with the movie's surrealistic story make the film a worthwhile discussion on the forces of fate and love.
