Aamir Khan Considers Mahabharat As Potential Final Project: "It Might Be The Film That Ends My Career"

Renowned actor Aamir Khan recently shared his thoughts on what could possibly be his last film project—an adaptation of the Mahabharat. In a candid conversation with podcaster Raj Shamani, Aamir revealed that after finishing his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par, slated for release on June 20, he intends to fully immerse himself in bringing the epic tale of the Mahabharat to life.

Aamir expressed that working on Mahabharat is a long-cherished ambition. According to him, the sheer magnitude, emotional depth, and intricate themes of the epic might make him feel creatively fulfilled, to the extent that he might not seek further roles afterward. "The Mahabharat holds everything—love, war, duty, family, betrayal, sacrifice—it's the entire world in one story," he reflected. He further added, "Once I complete this project, I might just feel like there’s nothing left to explore."

While contemplating his future in cinema, Aamir also spoke about his lifelong passion for his craft. "I hope I can keep working till my last breath. As A K Hangal saab used to say, 'I want to die with my shoes on.' That’s what I hope for too," he remarked with a smile. Still, he acknowledged that if any film could signal the end of his acting journey, it might just be the Mahabharat.

In a previous chat with The Hollywood Reporter India, Aamir delved deeper into the scale of this dream project. He explained that telling the Mahabharat story in a single film would be impossible. Instead, he’s considering a multi-part format, much like how the Lord of the Rings trilogy was made. "Shooting them all together could be a way to bring the story to audiences within a reasonable timeframe," he suggested.

As for his immediate plans, Aamir is gearing up for the release of Sitaare Zameen Par, which he describes as a spiritual successor to his 2007 classic Taare Zameen Par. The film is will hit theatres on June 20.
