Aamir Khan has opened up about his decision to skip OTT platforms for his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par. In a recent press interaction, the actor said, 'I never liked that model,' referring to the 8-week window that typically separates theatrical and digital releases.

Aamir Khan rejected OTT offer for Theatrical Release

Khan reportedly turned down a ₹120 crore offer from a major streaming platform. Instead, he opted for a traditional theatrical release, followed later by a pay-per-view model on YouTube priced at ₹100 in India, with region-specific pricing in over 30 countries. His decision was rooted in a desire to prioritize cinema halls and preserve the big-screen experience.

He also shared that veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan advised him to go with his instinct, which strengthened his resolve to stay away from a direct-to-OTT path. According to Aamir, releasing films too quickly on digital platforms weakens the theatrical ecosystem and undervalues creative storytelling.

Khan Chooses cinema-first approach over Digital model

The Multiplex Association of India praised Khan's decision as a bold step that supports both multiplexes and single-screen theaters. Sitaare Zameen Par, starring Aamir Khan and Genelia D’Souza, features a heartwarming story about neurodivergent children and is being called a spiritual successor to Taare Zameen Par.
