Aamir Khan Reacts To Age Difference With Genelia In New Film

Bollywood actor Aamir Khan recently opened up about the age difference between him and his co-star Genelia Deshmukh in their upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par, a spiritual follow-up to his 2007 classic Taare Zameen Par. Their unexpected collaboration stirred chatter among fans, particularly because Genelia had earlier shared screen space with Aamir’s nephew, Imran Khan, in the 2008 romantic hit Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na.




Seventeen years ago, Genelia (now 37) played the adorable Meow opposite Imran’s character, Rats. Fast forward to 2025, she’s stepping into the role of Aamir’s onscreen spouse in Sitaare Zameen Par, while Aamir is now 60. Naturally, fans were intrigued by this shift and the noticeable 23-year age gap between the two stars.

In an interview with the Indian Express, Aamir addressed this age difference with his signature wit. “Yes, the thought did cross my mind. But now even Imran feels almost my age,” he joked. He went on to explain that the characters in the movie are both written as being in their early 40s. “She fits the part. I might be older in real life, but today we have the help of technology like VFX. Earlier, if I had to portray a younger version, I’d rely on makeup or prosthetics. Now, the screen allows more flexibility,” he shared.

Aamir even cited veteran actor Anil Kapoor, who famously played a much older character in Eeshwar (1989), as an example of how age is no longer a barrier in performance. “Back then, Anil played a role 40 years older than his real age. So, why not now with better tools?” Aamir added.

The unusual pairing has undoubtedly piqued curiosity. With Genelia’s charm and Aamir’s depth, fans are eager to see if this new onscreen couple can create the same magic as Rats and Meow once did. Slated for a June 20 release, Sitaare Zameen Par arrives with an emotional plot, refreshing character arcs, and an unexpected duo that's already stirring excitement among audiences.

Only time will tell if their chemistry wins over the audience, but anticipation is definitely high.
