The Premier theatre festival, hosted by the National School of Drama (NSD) in Delhi, marks not only Tripathi’s homecoming to the theatre but also after a decade. The selection not only marks a momentous moment for Pankaj Tripathy but also for his daughter Aashi, who will debut in Lailaaj, marking it as a family milestone.
Pankaj Tripathi described the moment as deeply emotional and is humbled by this honour of presenting his play on the Bharat Rang Mahotsav platform, which is a very special place in Indian theatre, and for them to have chosen Lailaaj for their 25th edition is truly heartfelt. For the Tripathi family, the festival platform has an important significance, and sharing the stage with his daughter Aashi. It is offering his humble play to the theatre community that shaped him.
About Lailaaj
Lailaaj is produced under Pankaj Tripathi and his wife Mridula Tripathi’s banner, Roopkatha Rangmanch, a musical comedy written and directed by Faiz Mohammed Khan. Pankaj emphasised that it’s a simple musical and a heartfelt story built on the hard work of many who are involved in the theatre for a living, as well as it’s an art form that is close to his heart.
Mridula Tripathi, the co-producer, expressed with similar pride reflecting on the journey of their banner, the Roopkatha Rangmanch, that their goal was never to be recognised but to convey through theatre, the stories with sincerity and warmth. Lailaaj being celebrated at the finest theatre is an incredible validation, said Mrs Tripathi. She further added that their daughter’s debut on such a prestigious platform means a lot and is deeply emotional. The family’s commitment to theatre as an art that connects to heal and inspire many others.
Lailaaj will be showcased at Bharat Rang Mahotsav from the end of January to the beginning of February 2026.
