Poet laureate Muhammad Ibrahim Zauq's student Daagh Dehlvi started composing poetry at the age of ten and eventually mastered the 'ghazal.' His romantic poetry and story, which is currently being adapted into a teleplay for Zee Theatre called 'Daag-O-Hijaab,' are still relevant to contemporary audiences. The well-known actor Shahbaz Khan was thrilled to be allowed to portray the renowned poet. Khan has portrayed numerous historical figures, such as Prithviraj Chauhan, Akbar, and Hyder Ali.


Ustad Amir Khan Fascinated by 'Daag-O-Hijaab' Teleplay's Melodic Tone:

The teleplay's melodic tone immediately drew the attention of Khan's father, Ustad Amir Khan, a renowned classical vocalist and recipient of the Padma Bhushan Award. He states, 'I have a strong interest in poetry and music, and I come from a rich cultural background. Being a part of a lyrical, poetic, and intensely passionate story was a delight, and this character seemed to be the ideal fit.'


Exploring Daagh Dehlvi's Romantic Saga in 'Daag-O-Hijaab' Teleplay:

The musical 'Daag-O-Hijaab' centres on Daagh's illicit love for a courtesan. 'The play is written so beautifully and reveals so many unknown facets of Daagh's life,' Munni Bai and Khan comment. 'Playing him allowed me to learn more about what made him a remarkable poet and a man who would go to any lengths to be with his beloved'


Shahbaz Khan's Debut Teleplay Role Explores Poet Daagh's Passionate Journey:

Khan adds, 'It was an exciting opportunity to perform in a genre that challenges the conventional technique of filming content for the small screen. This was also the first time he performed in a teleplay. I am particularly pleased that the teleplay will serve as a reminder to viewers of Daagh, a venerable poet whose observations on life and love are still relevant today.'
