The netizens have discovered that Aamir Khan’s new film, ‘Sitaare Zameen Par,’ is quite similar to Woody Harrelson’s Champions. While the film Harrelson’s Champions is also a remake of the Spanish film Campeones.


Aamir Khan’s team released the trailer of the upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par just a few days ago. The trailer won critical appreciation for its simple, innocent and honest depiction of some intellectual disabilities.


Aamir Khan appears in the trailer as a disgruntled and unorthodox coach. Although critics have praised the trailer, the netizens have quickly pointed out that some scenes from the trailer closely resemble those from the film Champions. Adding to the controversy, many other users revealed that Champions itself is a remake of the Spanish film Campeones. This has ignited a major debate amongst the audiences and has left the internet divided.  


Plagiarism Allegations Against Sitaare Zameen Par


The plot of the upcoming film ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ follows the journey of a coach (Aamir Khan) of a professional basketball team who gets fired after attacking his senior, and then gets arrested for drink and driving. Following the incident, the court then sentences him to community service, wherein he has to train a team of several intellectually disabled persons. The film, ‘Champions,’ starring Woody Harrelson, also had the same plot. Interestingly, some users noticed that the makers of Sitare Zameen Par had replicated some scenes from the film Champions.



The controversy around Aamir Khan’s film started when a scene comparison video of both films went viral on Instagram. In a response to the video, some of the users commented, ‘Cut Copy Paste,’  ‘What is Bollywood? An industry where originality is on vacation, A remix factory where they take a Hollywood or Tollywood script, add six unnecessary songs, and call it a cinematic universe. While many other users pointed out that the various scenes were way too similar to the scenes from the film ‘Champions.’ One user commented, ‘Copying frame by frame! That requires some talent,’

R S Prasanna directs the film Sitaare Zameen Par. Aamir Khan Productions is producing the film, which will arrive as a sequel to the film Taare Zameen Par, released in the year 2007. Its cast introduces a total of ten debutant actors, namely Aroush Dutta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Ayush Bhansali, and Vedant Sharma.
