Amitabh Bachchans Fear Of AI Taking Over His Job: Navigating The Fine Line Between Creativity And Technology

In a recent episode of the iconic game show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), Season 15 Episode 19, the legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan was in conversation with a contestant named Chirag Agarwal, an engineering student. The contestant asked Amitabh Bachchan about AI taking over creative jobs and the possibility of using a hologram, to which Mr. Bachchan playfully replied, "Let me tell you the truth, this is not me but my hologram." He also added, "I am scared; I might be replaced with a hologram." In films, such things happen. We are taken to a room and around 40 cameras rotate around and we are made to make various expressions by making faces and looking all around. I didn’t know for what, but later I learned that they would be used later on in my absence. Even if I haven’t given the shot, it will seem that it is me. So, I am scared that AI will take over our jobs". 

It wasn’t the first time Amitabh Bachchan voiced his concerns about AI. On his Instagram account, he once shared an AI-generated image of himself, with a caption that read, "Err…. This is formed by AI using just my voice. just my voice sample… no wonder then that the head of the supreme tech resigns, for fear of what AI will do in the years ahead."

His concerns and unease about AI and its impact on the industry are shared by many in the creative field all around the world. These concerns about the future of human employment are real. If AI can accurately reproduce an actor’s expressions, voice, and demeanour, what will happen to the actor’s livelihood? It is similar for writers and graphic designers.
