Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's film Sikandar was released this year. It was one of the most anticipated movies of 2025 as it marked the return of legendary director A.R. Murugadoss to Bollywood.

On release, the film faced criticism and backlash from both fans and critics. Now its director has shared his opinion on the failure of Sikandar.

Director Explains the Emotional Story

In an interview with Velaipechu Voice, the director shared that the plot of the film was an emotional one. He said, 'It’s about a king who doesn’t truly understand his wife. We are all like that—whether it’s with our mother, friend, or wife, we often don’t value relationships.'

He further added that only after a person's demise do people understand their value and feel 'the weight of guilt.' He said that in the movie, after the king's wife passes away, her organs are donated to three different people. In the story, the king finds them out and fulfills the things he couldn't do for her. He then said, "The story was emotional, but I couldn’t execute it well."

On His Next Bollywood Project

On the question of his next project in Bollywood, he said, 'I’m not saying I won’t return to Hindi cinema; I definitely will if I find my comfort zone. But when the audience can’t connect with my thinking, it affects me deeply.'

Sikandar’s Box Office Collection

Sikandar was anticipated as a comeback movie for superstar Salman Khan, but the film couldn’t create such waves. Salman played the role of a king in the film opposite Rashmika Mandanna and Kajal Aggarwal. The film grossed ₹186 crore at the box office on a budget of ₹200 crore. A.R. Murugadoss had earlier marked his Bollywood debut with Ghajini starring Aamir Khan, which was a blockbuster hit.
