A new controversy is brewing on social media surrounding actress Subhashree Ganguly. For the past few months, she has been referred to as a “Lady Superstar” in various fan-made videos, reels and posters.

Although this adjective is used as a recognition of popularity and talent, this time actor Aritra Dutt Banik has spoken out against this wording.

Gender Discrimination Hidden Within The Phrase “Lady Superstar”

Aritra posted on social media and asked, “Why do people call Subhashree Ganguly a ‘Lady Superstar’?’” He believes there should not be any gender label for superstars. When people add “lady” before superstar, they create a different category. According to Aritra, this makes her achievements seem less important.

Dev Did Not Use The Word “lady” For Subhashree

Aritra also said that Subhashree has her own huge fan base, thousands of people go to watch her films, her presence on OTT is also attracting viewers. In several recent films, she has played such roles where she is not dependent on a hero. Therefore, calling her a ‘lady superstar’ just because she is a woman is unnecessary and disrespectful. One notable aspect of Aritra’s post is actor Dev’s recent comment. Although Dev recognized Subhashree as a “superstar” in an interview, he did not use the word “lady” anywhere. Aritra believes that this is a right choice, where an actress’s identity should be based on professionalism and success.

Subhashree and Aritra Have Worked Together

Relatively, Subhashree and Aritra have recently collaborated on a web series, which is currently awaiting release. Earlier, they were seen in a single frame in the film 'Paraan Jay Jaliya Re', where Aritra was a child artist.
