Assam's music fraternity is grieving following the sudden loss of legendary singer Gayatri Hazarika, who died peacefully at the age of 44 on May 16, 2025. The vocalist, whose soulful voice and immortal songs were loved by all, was suffering from colon cancer in secret. She passed away at the Nemcare Hospital in Guwahati at approximately 2:15 PM.


Hazarika gained fame with songs such as "Xora Pate Pate Phagun Naame," which were nothing short of iconic in Assamese homes. With a career that combined classical schooling and emotional expression, she enthralled listeners and gained respect across generations.
