Central Government Orders All OTT Platforms To Take Down Pakistan-Origin Content

The government has strictly directed all the OTT platforms, digital intermediaries, as well as the media streaming services to immediately stop hosting as well as streaming the content that originates from Pakistan. 

The nation's authorities took rapid action in order to maintain the nation's security and public harmony. Official Advisory By The Ministry Of Information And Broadcasting. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has recently issued an advisory to prohibit the Pakistan-origin content.

The advisory covers the exclusion of the Pakistan-origin content from all forms of media such as films, songs, podcasts, web series, and any other kind of digital content, whether it is available or free or on the basis of a subscription model.

The advisory further stated, 'In the interest of national security, all media streaming platforms, OTT platforms and intermediaries operating within the nation are strictly advised to discontinue the web-series, songs, films, songs, podcasts, and any other type of content hailing from Pakistan.' 

Central Government's Clarification

The government said that this move follows the recent terrorist attacks, including the attack that occurred on 22nd April in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that resulted in the tragic deaths of various innocent citizens.

Advisory's Impact On OTT Platforms

Meanwhile, this decision by the Government could severely impact the content libraries of various mainstream OTT platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+Hotstar, Zee5 and several other streaming services that have been previously hosting numerous Pakistan-origin dramas as well as films. 

While these OTT platforms might have to face a huge financial loss due to the strict actions imposed by the Government.
