The announcement made by the Ministry and Broadcasting highlighted the filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker’s enduring association with the country’s prestigious cinematic events.
Gowariker’s journey with IFFI spans across several decades, hence making his appointment as the Festival Director for the 57th International Film Festival is well earned. He has been attending the festival from the time he was a young enthusiast since the 1980’s. He has served as the Jury President for International Cinema in 2024 and his association reflects the deep connection and his commitment to the growth and evolution of the global film culture in India.

Ashutosh Gowariker expresses immense pride and gratitude for being entrusted with the role of the Festival Director which is not only an honour for him but also a great responsibility to uphold and carry on the rich legacy that has been built over many years, many generations. He recalled his first experience at the IFFI Festival in 1984 which he described the moment as a full cycle journey connecting him to his early passion for cinema with his present leadership role bestowed on him.
He also emphasized his eagerness to collaborate with the Ministry and the Government of Goa to further strengthen the International Film Festival’s global standing. He has a vision to enhance the festival’s reach while he works towards preserving its core essence of celebrating the diverse narratives and story telling from around the world.
The International Film Festival established in 1952 will continue to be one of Asia’s most influential film festivals. It will serve as a vibrant platform for international cinema and look towards the cultural exchange as well. With Ashutosh now joining to helm the 57th edition is expected to elevate India’s cinematic footprint and reinforce its position on the global platform.
