Who can forget 90’s actress Shantipriya? She was the graceful, bubbly actress who played the lead in Akshay Kumar’s debut film Saugandh in 1991. She then featured as the lead in several films like Phool Aur Angaar with Mithun Chakraborty, opposite Sunny Deol in Veerta, among others. The actress then got married at the peak of her career and took a break from acting to focus on her hubby and children.

Shantipriya recently made her comeback on the ramp after nearly 16 years. To this she replied, “The last time I walked the ramp was in 2006. Getting back to it was so much fun. Being a dancer I am used to perform and so doing this walk after a long gap didn’t leave me nervous at all.” The actress will be making her acting comeback in the Sarojini Naidu biopic.

Talking about her decision to return to the big screen she said, “I don’t have any regrets. I took a break to focus on my duties as a mother and a wife. I think I have fulfilled all my duties and now I am back to where I belong.” She further added, “Today I see that not only actors who are married are still facing the camera, but also those who become mothers are returning to showbiz in a very short span of time. I am glad that my sons too pushed me for getting back to what I like the most and that’s acting. They were like, ‘Now that we are grown-ups and can take care of ourselves you need to look beyond your motherly duties.”

Giving us an insight into playing the freedom fighter Sarojini Naidu’s role in the upcoming film, Shanthi said, “It is a pan-India movie and will be made in four different languages - Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi. We are going on the floor in June. I have a lot of prep to do before that. We hardly have any reels or clippings to see Sarojini Naidu’s mannerisms. I need to nail her body language before I start shooting. I am really excited for this one.”
