Tollywood star Vishnu Manchu’s mythological epic Kannappa, which released in cinemas on 27 June, is now reportedly heading to Amazon Prime Video on 25 July 2025, barely four weeks after its theatrical debut.
Vishnu Manchu’s mythological epic headed to Prime Video in July
This quick OTT premiere marks a significant shift from earlier statements. Vishnu Manchu had previously announced during a promotional event that Kannappa would not appear on streaming platforms before completing a ten-week run in theatres. He had emphasized that the film’s digital rights were not sold early to protect its box office presence.
Kannappa, released in multiple languages including Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, and English, follows the story of Thinnadu, a tribal hunter who transforms into a devoted follower of Lord Shiva. The film is grand in scale and features star cameos from Prabhas, Mohanlal, and Akshay Kumar.
Kannappa OTT Premiere set for late July, Contrary to Earlier plan
While there has been no official statement yet from either the actor or Amazon Prime, industry insiders suggest that the OTT debut is imminent. The move also reflects a broader shift in Indian cinema where theatrical to streaming windows are becoming shorter, driven by audience demand and viewing trends. Fans can now look forward to the film's digital release much sooner than expected.
