Bollywood gears up for the release of Akshay Kumar’s upcoming film Kesari Chapter 2 on April 18 2025. Fans have their eyes on the superstar who essays the role of the legend Sir Chettur Sankaran Nair, the Chief Justice, a name that not many would resonate with. He was one who defined the role of India’s fight against colonial oppression in a legal battle at the 1880 High Court. Kesari Chapter 2 is based on the case that shook the empire . A historical event which was written by Sir Chettur Sankaran Nair’s great-grandson, Raghu Palat and his wife, Pushpa Palat.
Karan Johar and Karan Singh Tyagi Unite for 'Kesari Chapter 2'
The film is to be directed by Karan Singh Tyagi and is produced by Karan Johar. The film will not only highlight the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, which was the darkest chapters in British colonial history, but also the monumental courtroom battle that followed.
The film was initially titled Shankara and renamed to Kesari Chapter 2 in February 2025. The film was officially announced in March 2025. Besides Akshay Kumar in the lead role as the lawyer C. Shankaran Nair, will also have a star cast of Ananya Panday and R Madhavan in pivotal roles.
Historic Locations Bring 'Kesari Chapter 2' to Life
It is said that a large set of Jallianwala Bagh was constructed for the important sequences. Few of the sets were created in Alibag, and some of the portion of the film was shot in Rewari Railway junction and at the Rewari Railway Heritage museum. A part of the film was shot at the Red Fort, Delhi University and at the Sunder Nursery.
Kesari Chapter 2 will finally get the cinematic tribute that it deserves and the untold story of Sir Chettur Sankaran Nair needs to be told and heard.
