Lata Mangeshkar- Honored Not Just In India But Received International Recognition Too

Known to have a voice like no other, the late Lata Mangeshkar was a treasure to India. She has sung an unbelievable 30,000 plus songs in her 7 decade long career in more than 36 Indian languages. While the ‘Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya’ singer received the highest honors in India like the Bharat Ratna, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan, among others, her art and incredible singling skills were recognized and praised internationally too. 

 

Lata didi’s international achievements are listed below. She received the honorary citizenship of the Republic of Surinam, South America in 1980. She visited Ontario, Canada on June 9th 1985, the day is celebrated as Asia Day. She was bestowed with the honorary citizenship of the United States In Houston, Texas in 1987. She received the Legion of Honor in 2007, Officer of French Legion of Honor, France’s highest order in 2009 and Knight of the Legion of Honor (French Highest Civilian award) in 2010. 

 

Lata Mangeshkar passed away in Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital after battling covid and pneumonia. She breathed her last on February 6th 2022 following a multiple organ failure. Her glorious silken voice will forever remain in our hearts till the end of time.
