Marathi Film Chirbhog Won The NHRC Competition

The NHRC has also decided to award a cash award of Rs 50,000 each to each of the three films selected for the Special Mention Certificate.

The National Human Rights Commission has selected the Marathi film Chirbhog, which exposes caste and occupation-based discrimination in the society, for the first prize in the 8th Short Film Competition on Human Rights. In the first prize, the film is given a prize of two lakh rupees.

The film exposes the caste and occupation based persistent discrimination in the society through the story of a boy and his humiliating struggles till he stands up and upholds the principles and practices to ensure the rights of freedom, equality, education, respect I do not decide to expose the contradictions. It is in Marathi with subtitles in English. The film is directed by Nilesh Ambedkar.

Bhavani Dole Tahu's Unabled has been selected for the second prize of Rs 1.5 lakh. The film emphasizes on changing the mindset about Divyangjan, through the story of a differently-abled child, and the discrimination that undermines their rights to parenting, freedom, equality and dignity through parenting. It is in Assamese language with subtitles in English.

T Kumar's Acham Thaveer has been selected for the third prize of Rs one lakh. The film through the story of a girl student needs to create awareness among the students about any wrong touching and sexual harassment in the school and alert the teachers as well as the administration to ensure their dignity and right to education emphasizes on. The film is available in Tamil language with English subtitles.

The NHRC has also decided to award a cash award of Rs 50,000 each to each of the three films selected for the Special Mention Certificate. The objective of the NHRC Short Film Awards Scheme is to promote and acknowledge cinematic and creative efforts towards the promotion and protection of human rights. A total of 123 short films were in the running for the awards, officials said. They said that after some time a festival of award winning films and award ceremony would be organized by the Commission.
