Marathi Filmmaker Chaitanya Tamhane has plenty to celebrate. His film The Disciple that streamed on OTT giant Netflix on 30th April has made it to the Indiewire’s list. It is in fact the only Indian movie to feature in the ’50 Best Movies Of 2021’ category. Tamhane has written, directed and edited the film. The film stars Aditya Modak, Sumitra Bhave, Arun Dravid and stands on the 26th position on the poll. Some of the other films that are also part of the list include Drive My Car, Flee, Belfast, The Velvet Underground and so on.

The decision to put the above films on the list was a decision taken through votes of 187 film critics. The Disciple has also won the FIPRESCI International Critics Prize and the Best Screenplay award at Venice International Film Festival and many more. The film even topped Jane Campion’s American film The Power of the Dog. This is a huge achievement not just for the Marathi filmmaker but also for Indian cinema.
