After Deepika Padukone, it is actress Radhika Apte who had refused to do long shifts in the film industry. Radhika shared that she had to fight with many people in the industry to bring forth her views. She added that hiring a nanny to look after the actor’s baby is not the only solution that one needs to address here. It’s also about the five-day work shift to a 12-hour shift while an actor or actress signs for a script. Its always non- negotiable.

Radhika was questioned had the film industry offered to make it more parent friendly and what would she do to bring about this change. She said, first and foremost she would begin with the fixed working hours. How can the film industry expect someone to go and entire week without seeing their child. She said it is shocking to see how much arguments she had go to go through to reduce the long working hours. There were answers like hire a nanny and bring them on the sets along with the baby, but that’s not the answer one wants.

Radhika spoke about her non-negotiables while signing a script

The actress is said to have put her foot down and lot of people haven’t liked it. She concluded that it is not possible for her to work beyond 12 hours and that includes her everything for her right from her travel time to her hair setting to make up and the shoot by itself. She said many a times the travel alone takes two hours and then the shift begins. She also said there are exceptions but for her its non-negotiable and she insists on a weekly off and ideally would also not like to work more than five days a week. Unless it’s a small film where it’s genuinely required to put in a certain number of hours without which it cannot function.

Radhika Apte’s family and career

In December 2024, Radhika had announced the birth of her child. She had married Benedict Taylor in 2012. The couple divided their time between London and Mumbai after they had met in 2011. When Radhika lived in London, she took a sabbatical and focused on her contemporary dance. They had lived together before her marriage in 2012 which was officially celebrated in 2013.

Radhika has several new and upcoming projects in early 2026 which has few direct to digital thrillers as well as international independent cinemas. 

Her last film was Saali Mohabbat a crime thriller which marked the directorial debut of Tisca Chopra. Radhika starred as a housewife whose husband are cousin are found dead in the web series streaming currently on ZEE5 Original.
