The Bengali film industry is in mourning after the sudden death of the veteran filmmaker Anik Dutta. The 65-year-old director had reportedly fallen from the terrace of his residence in South Kolkotta on Wednesday 27th May 2026.   


The shocking incident has left the Bengali film world in a state of shock. Many have expressed the loss as the blow to the Bengali film industry. 


Anik Dutta was the most uncompromising filmmakers in the film industry. 


The Bengali cinema has been devastated with their posts pouring on the social media expressing their grief over the loss of their favourite filmmaker Anik Dutta.  It is indeed a devastating day for Bengali cinema. 


West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari expressed his grief, stating he is saddened by the untimely demise of the renowned filmmaker.   

Anik Dutta had contributed towards Bengali Cinema which is priceless. Heartfelt condolences to his family and friends have been pouring in after the mysterious and  sudden demise of the filmmaker. 


The Kolkota Police will be investigating the matter and the circumstances around his death. 


About Anik Dutta’s directorial career. 


Anik Dutta made his debut in 2012 with the Bengali film Bhooter Bhabishyat. He worked on films like Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay’s novel Aschorio Prodip. Anit Dutta was the grandson of Narendra Chandra Dutta, the founder of United Bank of India. 


Anik was greatly influenced by the famous Satyajit Ray’s style of filmmaking. his films often portrayed similarity to Ray’s works. 

Dutta at the age of 66 had died from complications after his fall from the terrace on May 27th 2026.
