The Bengali film industry is in mourning after the sudden death of the veteran filmmaker Anik Dutta. The 65-year-old director had reportedly fallen from the terrace of his residence in South Kolkotta on Wednesday 27th May 2026.

Anik Dutta made his debut in 2012 with the Bengali film Bhooter Bhabishyat. He worked on films like Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay’s novel Aschorio Prodip. Anit Dutta was the grandson of Narendra Chandra Dutta, the founder of United Bank of India.
Anik was greatly influenced by the famous Satyajit Ray’s style of filmmaking. his films often portrayed similarity to Ray’s works.
Dutta at the age of 66 had died from complications after his fall from the terrace on May 27th 2026.
