Mumbai, June 19
Famous Marathi stage actor and director Vivek Lagoo, the former husband of late actress Reema Lagoo, died in Pune on Wednesday morning at the age of 74 years. Though the official cause of death hasn’t been announced, his family shared that he’d been ill for an extended period.
Vivek Lagoo was for long a voice of great authority in Marathi theatre, who graced Hindi movies and TV shows. And while he didn’t often seek the spotlight, his invaluable work on behalf of the entire performing arts community has left him a quietly ubiquitous and long-loved presence through the years.
Friends, family, and theatre community pay tribute to a life dedicated to the arts
Lagoo was also once married to the late Reema Lagoo, one of Indian cinema’s most cherished maternal archetypes, who died in 2017. The couple had one daughter, Mrunmayee Lagoo, an acclaimed actor and theatre director.

His last rituals are scheduled for June 20 at the Oshiwara crematorium in Mumbai, where members of the film and theatre fraternity will assemble on the spot and pay their last rites.
A silent contributor to Indian drama, Vivek Lagoo leaves behind a cultural legacy
As soon as word of his passing was released, tributes started flooding social media from peers, aspiring actors, playwrights and thousands of others who have been inspired by his body of work. His passing, after all, ends a quiet, profound chapter in Indian theatre history.
