Veteran Actress And Politician Jaya Prada Sentenced To 6 Months Jail With Rs 5,000 Fine

Veteran actress and politician Jaya Prada has faced a setback from the Egmore Court in Chennai. The court has given her a 6-month jail sentence and a fine of Rs 5,000 for a case that goes back several years. Her partners in business, Ram Kumar and Raja Babu, also received the same punishment.

The issue revolves around a movie theatre owned by Jaya Prada and her partners in Rayapeta, Chennai. The theatre was closed down due to losses a few years ago. However, they hadn't paid back the money they deducted from their staff's salaries for the ESI (Employee State Insurance) fund. The staff took the matter to court, filing a case against Jaya Prada, her partners, and the State Insurance Corporation for not settling the ESI dues.

The Labor Government Insurance Corporation then took legal action against Jaya Prada, Ram Kumar, and Raja Babu at the Egmore Magistrate Court in Chennai, leading to their sentencing. Although Jaya Prada had promised to pay the dues and requested the court to drop the case, her appeal was rejected. As a result, she has been given a 6-month jail term and a fine of Rs 5,000.

Jaya Prada was a well-known actress during the late 70s and 80s, starring in many Telugu and Hindi films. Some of her memorable movies include 'Siri Siri Muvva', 'Sargam', 'Sindoor', 'Maa', and 'Ooriki Monagadu'. Over her 30-year career, she acted in around 300 films.
