Vir Das Was Paid Rs 8 Lakh for a Minor Role in Love Aaj Kal

Vir joked, 'I was the most expensive background extra in the history of cinema, I think.' The character in the movie Love Aaj Kal didn't have much screen time, but he mentally subtracted that from his pay. The role was significant for him, as it helped him land more substantive acting roles later in his career.

Fans were pleasantly surprised for him and, at the same time, amused, as background roles are notoriously low paying. It led to discussions about outliers in pay structure in the film industry, because 'Wow, 800k for background extra work!'
