'Aranyer Dinratri' was recently shown at the Cannes Film Festival. Actress Sharmila Tagore had reached France for the screening of the film. After the screening, the veteran actress faced the media. Before elaborating what she said, let's know a bit about 'Aranyer Dinratri'.

Let me tell you that Satyajit Ray subtly weaved urban life and different social classes into the film. The film depicted the lives of four urban youths in the jungles of Palamur for a few days. While shooting for this film, Sharmila experienced a lot. Ans this day, she shared her experience working with Satyajit Ray. Not only acting, Sharmila also interviewed Satyajit. In an interview, Sharmila told a journalist, "Just as you are interviewing me, I also interviewed Satyajit Ray."

Satyajit Ray faces Interviewer Sharmila this way

Sharmila asked, “Which of the films you have directed do you like the most?” To this very tough question, Satyajit easily said that his favorite directed movies were 'Pather Panchali', 'Aparajito' and 'Apur Sansar' from the Apu trilogy. After that, his favorite was 'Aranyer Dinratri'. Referring to the name of this film, Satyajit Ray said, "You are in this film."

Sharmila also reminisced about the experience of shooting for 'Aranyer Dinratri'. She said, "We used to call him Manikda. He would have a script written by his hand. Manikda would not ask us to memorize the dialogues." Satyajit Ray would forbid any kind of preparation in advance for a particular scene. He wanted some reactions to come spontaneously from the actors.

There was a memory game scene in the film. For that scene, Satyajit Ray allowed Ravi Ghosh to speak his own dialogues and react. But keeping the character in mind, the director did not allow Soumitra Chatterjee to do that, Sharmila said.
