Synopsis

Shaunak is a 30 years old man of Indian origin and is currently based in the US as a professor. He visits his aunt, Sindhu Deshpande alias Tai. Tai is a 76 years old woman, residing in a small city of Ahmednagar. The purpose of this visit is to consolidate Tai's assets and form a trust of the family-owned temple considering there would be none to take care of it after Tai. During this process, Shaunak discovers mysterious articles like an old trunk, gramophone records, handwritten drama scripts, and scriptures written by his grandfather. Curiously enough Shaunak inquires about it. Tai, though reluctant in the beginning, eventually responds narrating the history behind every object found. The conversation that flows between them revisits her life for the past 80 years. The dialogue between Tai and Shaunak explores the fabric and intricacies of relationships in their family. The rich tradition of Bhakti along with decadence of the family comes to the forefront along with many dark corners which Shaunak is completely unaware of. The story of interwoven relationships and their long-reaching ramifications played on two distinct levels, past and present, SOYARE SAKAL emphasizes one thing,” Nobody is alien. We all are relatives. One has to hold the hand of another and when the time comes it needs to be paid forward.”
